Visiting the Algarve

The Algarve (meaning "The West") is the most southerly region of mainland Portugal, it incorporates 16 municipalities, with Faro as it's administrative center.
The Algarve coastline stretches from the Spanish border at Vila Real de Santo on the Atlantic Ocean to Cabo de São Vicente, on the Mediterranean sea in the west.
By far the most popular tourist destination in Portugal, the Algarve is also very likely to be the most popular holiday destination in Europe.

Home to stunning golden sand beaches and a spectacular cliff- lined coast, Albufeira, located on the south coast, in the center of the Algarve region, boasts over 3000 average hours of sunshine a year. Albufeira old town is strewn with black and white, patterned cobbled stone streets, and are lined with restaurants, bars, cafes and shops.

The Surrounding Area

It is still possible to get away from the crowds in Portugal, moving a short distance inland to towns like Silves, and Alte in the foothills of the Serra de Monchique mountains. These smaller towns display the fast disappearing Portuguese culture and its rich Moorish past.
