The Greek Dodecanese Islands

The Dodecanese (meaning 'Twelve') are a group of Greek islands that form the eastern most boundary of Greece in the Aegean Sea. The 12 larger island include Rhodes and Kos which have been favorite destinations for British and German tourists over the last few decades, less popular than the Cyclades, the Dodecanese islands are well known for their Medieval architecture. The most popular islands of Dodecanese islands Rhodes (Rodos) has been a strategically important island for many civilizations in ancient and modern history, and was the penultimate stronghold of Knights Hospitaller. later known as the "Knights of Rhodes". The twelve larger island are complemented by 150 smaller and mostly uninhabited islands, as a whole they form the major landmass of the Southern Sporades island group.
