St Petrox Church

Overlooking the entrance to the river Dart, St Petrox Church is one of three Anglican Churches in Dartmouth, it is situated to the south of the town immediately behind Dartmouth Castle.
Information about the church is very limited, it is believed that the tower of the present church may have been built in the 12th century, (more as a watch tower than church) , but there are some records that suggest a religious structure stood in a similar position prior to this.
The remaining parts of the structure were constructed later, some in the late 15th early 16th century, and then added to in the 17th century. A plaque over the west doorway of the north aisle is dated 1641 as is the pulpit. After a period of disuse and neglect, the church was restored in 1833.
There is a small road to the church, car parking is available on the roadside and at the small car park near the castle, however it's worth the walk if the weather is fine.
It is also possible to take a small ferry boat from Dartmouth harbour to the castle and church.
