Brixham

A well established and functioning fishing port, Brixham was once home to the world's largest fleet of wooden sailing trawlers. Brixham was known as the birth-place of sailing trawler fishing, which later spread far afield to the better known Grimsby and Hull ports.

A long since silted river flowed though the town which had grown and built up on the hills both sides. The original view of the town can still be seen today with the brightly, multi colour houses climbing the hill side either side of the harbour and the steep walls and steps surrounding the and main shopping area of the town which now sits where the river once flowed.

Like many other fishing ports in Devon and Cornwall the town has become more reliant on Tourism for income, sitting between Dartmouth and Torquay it attracts visitors by road and sea, having a substantial marina and established accommodation. Apart from the Marina and it's Fishing industry the main tourist attraction is a full size replica of the Golden Hind.
